For creators and AI influencer pages that earn commissions, get free products or are paid by brands. ## How to use the Affiliate Disclosure Generator 1. Pick what you get: a commission, Amazon Associates, a free product or a brand payment. Type the brand’s name if one applies. 2. Pick where the line goes: caption, on-screen text, spoken line, DM or bio. Say if an AI persona is on camera. 3. Copy each line into its place: at the start of the caption and the video, and next to the link in the DM. ## Where the disclosure has to appear The FTC says a disclosure must be hard to miss and easy to understand. On social media, people should not be able to skip it. | Place | What the FTC says | | --- | --- | | Caption | With the endorsement, where people will see it. At the end of a long post, behind “more” or mixed into hashtags, it is easy to miss. | | Picture or Story | When the picture carries the endorsement, put the disclosure on the picture. Leave it up long enough to read. | | Video | In the video, not only in the description. Say it and show it, for people who watch without sound. The start is better than the end. | | Live stream | Repeat it now and then for people who join late. | | Bio or profile | Not enough on its own. People see one post or video without visiting your profile. | | Language | The same language as the endorsement. | Don’t count on a platform’s own disclosure tool alone, the FTC says. You can use it next to your own line. ## Words that work and words to avoid - **Clear:** “Ad:”, “#ad” or “Advertisement” at the start, “Sponsored”, “I get commissions for purchases made through links in this post”, “Thanks Acme for the free product”. - **Next to a link:** the FTC says “Paid link” right next to an affiliate link should be adequate. “Affiliate link” alone may not be understood. - **Avoid:** “sp”, “spon” and “collab”, and “thanks” or “ambassador” on their own. - **Amazon:** the Associates Operating Agreement requires “As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases.”, shown clearly and prominently. ## AI personas need disclosures too - **Same rules.** The FTC’s Endorsement Guides, updated in 2023, define an endorser as someone who “could be or appear to be an individual, group, or institution”. The FTC’s notes on the change say this covers virtual influencers. An AI persona that earns from a link discloses like any creator. - **No “I use it every day”.** When an ad says the endorser uses a product, the Guides say the endorser must really have used it. Keep a persona’s lines to what the product is and does. - **Meta’s AI label.** On Instagram and Facebook, Meta may require its AI label on posts with photorealistic video or realistic-sounding audio made or changed with AI. Still images don’t need it. Next, send your link and this disclosure by DM to everyone who comments your keyword, on Instagram and Facebook Pages. Right next to a link, the FTC says “Paid link” should be adequate. Write it in the same language as the post. ### Is “#ad” enough for an affiliate link? It can be, at the start of the post. The FTC says “#ad”, “Ad:” and “ad” at the beginning are probably equal. At the end of a post, or mixed into hashtags, it is easy to miss. ### Is a disclosure in my bio enough? No. The FTC says a disclosure on a profile page alone is likely to be missed. People see one post or video without visiting your profile. Put it with each post, video and DM. ### Do AI influencers have to disclose affiliate links? Yes. The FTC’s 2023 Endorsement Guides count an endorser who only appears to be a person, and the FTC’s notes say that covers virtual influencers. An AI persona discloses the same way a person does. ### What disclosure does Amazon require? The sentence “As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases.”, shown clearly and prominently. Amazon’s policies also point to the FTC’s guides, so add a clear disclosure next to the links too. The FTC says you don’t need to disclose when you only tell people about something you bought. A free product, a payment or a commission is a relationship: disclose it. ## More free tools - [Amazon Affiliate Link Generator — Paste any Amazon product link or ASIN, add your tracking ID, and get a clean tagged link to copy.](https://phersa.com/tools/amazon-affiliate-link-generator) - [Comment-to-DM Generator — The call to action, DM versions and public replies for a comment-a-keyword post, ready to copy.](https://phersa.com/tools/comment-to-dm-generator) - [Instagram Caption Generator — Five captions for your post, by goal and tone, with a comment-keyword ask and a character count.](https://phersa.com/tools/instagram-caption-generator) [See all free tools for AI persona creators →](https://phersa.com/tools) Source: https://phersa.com/tools/affiliate-disclosure-generator
