For anyone who sells a digital product from an Instagram or Facebook page. ## How to use the Digital Product Pricing Calculator 1. Type your price. Or switch to Price for a net and type what you want to keep per sale. 2. Say whether tax is in your price or added at checkout. Type the tax rate, your fees and your refund rate. 3. Read the net per sale and where the rest goes: tax, fees and refunds. ## What comes out of each sale 1. **Tax.** If tax is included in your price, it is price × rate ÷ (100 + rate). At 20% that is one sixth of the price. 2. **Fees.** Your platform’s and payment processor’s percentage of what the buyer pays, plus any fixed amount per sale. 3. **Refunds.** On average, each sale loses refund rate × the price before tax. You can also say whether the fees on a refunded sale come back to you. **Worked example, made-up numbers:** a €29 guide with 20% VAT included, a 5% + €0.35 fee and a 4% refund rate. Tax is €29 ÷ 6 = €4.83, leaving €24.17. The fee is €1.45 + €0.35 = €1.80, so €22.37 is left before refunds. With fees not returned on refunds, the net is 0.96 × €24.17 − €1.80 = €21.40 per sale on average. ## Tax included in your price, or added at checkout When your price includes tax, the tax comes out of it: the buyer pays exactly the price shown, and you keep less. When tax is added at checkout, the buyer pays your price plus the tax, and your price stays whole. Tax rates depend on where the buyer is and how you sell, so check what applies to you. Some platforms collect and pay the tax for you. Either way, the tax isn’t yours to keep, so the calculator takes it off before it shows your net. ## Working back from the net you want Every extra unit of price brings you a fixed share of it after tax, fees and refunds. The calculator works out that share, adds back the fixed fee, and divides: price = (net you want + fixed costs) ÷ share kept. **Same made-up settings:** to keep €20 per sale, each extra euro of price leaves €0.75 once the €0.35 fixed fee is set aside. (€20 + €0.35) ÷ 0.75 = €27.13. Round up to a price you like, such as €28: anything above the answer nets more. If buyers pay exactly the price shown, tax is included, and it is price × rate ÷ (100 + rate): at 20%, a €120 price holds €20 of tax. If tax is added at checkout, your price stays whole. Pick the matching option in the calculator, since the net changes a lot between the two. ### Which fees should I type? Your own. Add every percentage and fixed amount your store, platform and payment processor take from one sale. To check, compare what a buyer paid with what reached you in a past payout. ### How are refunds counted? As an average across sales. With a 5% refund rate, one sale in twenty is paid back, so each sale loses 5% of its price before tax on average. If your processor keeps its fee on a refund, you lose that fee too. ### How much should I sell my ebook for? That depends on your offer and your audience. The calculator shows what you keep at each price, and the lowest price that leaves the amount you need. ## More free tools - [Profit Margin Calculator — Profit, margin and markup from cost and price, or the price to charge for the margin or markup you want.](https://phersa.com/tools/profit-margin-calculator) - [Break-Even ROAS Calculator — Profit per sale, break-even ROAS and the most you can pay in ads per sale, from your price and costs.](https://phersa.com/tools/break-even-roas-calculator) - [Comment-to-DM Calculator — From views to keyword comments, DMs, link taps and sales, per post and per month, with your own numbers.](https://phersa.com/tools/comment-to-dm-calculator) [See all free tools for AI persona creators →](https://phersa.com/tools) Source: https://phersa.com/tools/digital-product-pricing-calculator
