Why captions lose their spacing

Instagram doesn’t document how it handles spacing. People report two problems when a caption is posted:

• Empty lines disappear, so your paragraphs run together.
• A space at the end of a line can make the line break after it disappear.

The tool fixes both. It removes spaces at the ends of lines. It puts one character on every empty line, so the line is no longer empty and stays where you put it.

Invisible character or a dot

The invisible character is U+2800, the Braille Pattern Blank. It looks like an empty line but is a real character, so Instagram keeps it. Some screen readers may announce it, so use it for spacing between paragraphs, not for decoration.

A dot on its own line does the same job and is visible. Pick it if you want readers to see the gap.

Each filled line counts as one character. A caption can be up to 2,200 characters, and the count updates as you type.

What shows before “more”

In the feed, a caption is cut after its first lines and the rest sits behind “… more”, as in the preview. Put the line that makes people stop, and your call to action if it is short, before the first empty line.
