How to use the Instagram DM Link Generator

  1. Type your Instagram username, your Facebook Page username, or both. A pasted profile link works too.

  2. Copy the link, or open it to check that it starts a chat with the right account.

  3. Download the QR code as a PNG for print, slides or a video frame.

How the links work

  • Instagram: https://ig.me/m/username opens a DM with that account in the Instagram app. It starts a new chat, or opens the old one if the person has messaged you before.
  • Facebook Page: https://m.me/pageusername opens a chat with that Page in Messenger, new or existing.

Meta made ig.me links for the Instagram app on phones. Meta doesn’t support them on Instagram on the web, so test yours on a phone. Neither link can fill in a message for the person. Meta documents only a ref value, which businesses with a messaging app read on their side.

Where to use your DM link

  • Your bio links, on Instagram and on the other sites where people find you.
  • A link sticker in a Story, with a line that says what to send you.
  • A link-in-bio page, emails and your website, so people reach you without searching for the account.
  • The QR code on packaging, a flyer or a slide, where nobody can tap a link.

DM link or comment-to-DM

A DM link asks the person to write first. It suits places outside a post: a bio, a Story, a website. Comment-to-DM works inside the post. People comment a keyword and the DM comes to them, and the comments show others that the post has something to send.

The two work together. Ask people in a Story to DM you the keyword. An automation that also answers DMs sends them the same message a commenter gets.

How do I make a link that opens my Instagram DMs?

Add your username to https://ig.me/m/, like https://ig.me/m/yourname. The link opens a chat with your account in the Instagram app. This tool builds it, with a QR code.

Can an Instagram DM link pre-fill a message?

No. Meta’s docs for ig.me and m.me links describe only a ref value for businesses, not a message. Tell people what to send in the text next to the link.

Does the ig.me link work on a computer?

No. Meta says ig.me links aren’t supported on Instagram on the web. They are made for the Instagram app on phones, where most people will tap them.

What is the difference between ig.me and m.me?

ig.me/m/ opens an Instagram DM with an Instagram account. m.me/ opens a Messenger chat with a Facebook Page or person.

My Facebook Page link has profile.php?id= in it. What do I use?

Set a username for the Page first. A profile.php?id= link means it has none yet. A username can use letters, numbers and periods, at least 5 characters. Then type it here to get a short m.me link.
