The shaded bands are the 240 px at the top and bottom that the 3:4 profile grid cuts off. The guide is never in the file.

How to use the Instagram Reel Cover Maker

  1. Drop your video and drag to the frame you want, or drop an image. Zoom and move it to frame the face.

  2. Type the title and set its size, weight, position and style. Keep it inside the guide so the grid shows it.

  3. Download the 1080 × 1920 cover as a JPG or PNG. Add it as the cover when you share the Reel.

Since January 2025 the profile grid shows 3:4 tiles, so a Reel cover loses its top and bottom there. Keep the title and the face in the middle 1080 × 1440. Instagram’s Help Center lists 420 × 654 px (1:1.55) as the recommended cover size. A 1080 × 1920 cover matches the Reel’s shape and stays sharp.

What makes a cover easy to read

  • Few words. The grid tile is small on a phone. Three to six words read at a glance. A full sentence doesn’t.
  • Big and heavy. Bold or Black weight at a large size survives the shrink to a tile.
  • Contrast. White text needs a shadow or a background on a bright frame. Pick the Background style when the frame is busy.
  • Face and title apart. Put the title above or below the face, not across it, and keep both inside the guide.
  • One look across the grid. The same font, size and position on every cover makes the profile read like a series.

Instagram Reel Cover Maker questions

What size is an Instagram Reel cover?

1080 × 1920 pixels, the same 9:16 shape as the Reel. Your profile grid shows only the middle 1080 × 1440, so keep the title there.

Why is my Reel cover cut off on my profile?

Because the profile grid shows 3:4 tiles. It cuts 240 pixels off the top and 240 off the bottom of a 1080 × 1920 cover. Move the title toward the middle.

Can I pick a frame from my video?

Yes. Drop the video and drag the slider to the moment you want. Your browser reads the frame at the video’s full resolution.

Should the title be the same as the hook?

Often, yes. People read the cover title on your grid, so make the same promise as the first line of the video, in fewer words.
