How many slides can an Instagram carousel have?
Up to 20 photos and videos in one post. Instagram raised the limit from 10 to 20 in August 2024.
Split one wide image into 2 to 20 Instagram carousel slides at 1080 × 1350 (4:5) or 1080 × 1080, so the picture runs on from slide to slide as people swipe. Use it for panoramas, timelines and wide shots of your AI persona.

| What | Value |
|---|---|
| Slides per carousel | Up to 20 photos and videos (since August 2024; it used to be 10) |
| Portrait slide (4:5) | 1080 × 1350 px. Taller, so it fills more of the feed |
| Square slide (1:1) | 1080 × 1080 px |
| Full image for a seamless carousel | Slides × 1080 px wide: 3 slides at 4:5 is 3240 × 1350 px |
Use one size for every slide in the post. On the profile grid a carousel shows only its first slide, cropped to the grid’s 3:4 tile.
A seamless carousel is one wide picture cut into slides of equal width. Each slide ends where the next begins, so a swipe looks like one picture sliding along. The tool crops your image to the slide count times the slide width, then cuts it.

Up to 20 photos and videos in one post. Instagram raised the limit from 10 to 20 in August 2024.
1080 pixels wide for each slide, and 1350 pixels tall for 4:5 slides or 1080 for square ones. Three 4:5 slides need 3240 × 1350. A smaller image works, but the slides are enlarged and may look soft.
Start from one wide image, as wide as all the slides together. Split it here into equal 4:5 or square slides, and post them in order as one carousel. Let a line, a path or the horizon cross each cut, so the swipe feels like one picture.
4:5 for most carousels: the slides take more room in the feed. Pick square when your picture is short and wide and you don’t want to crop its top and bottom.
Yes. The slides are plain JPG images, so you can add them to one Facebook post. Facebook may show several photos as a collage instead of a swipe, so the seamless effect works best on Instagram.
